A Digipoll for the NZ Herald on MMP found:

  • 49% would vote in 2011 to ditch MMP
  • 36% would vote to retain it
  • 15% don’t know

ResearchNZ did a poll of 500 respondents from 8 to 10 September. Findings:

  • 45% want to retain MMP, 42% do not
  • 58% of under 25s want to retain MMP but only around 40% of over 55s

UMR did a poll from 2 to 6 July 2009 of 750 New Zealanders. Findings include:

  • 41% support MMP, 40% FPP, 19% unsure or no preference
  • 32% say MMP has had a positive impact, 37% were neutral and 24% said it had a negative impact
  • 64% want a referendum on MMP, 26% do not
  • 74% support reducing MPs from 120 to 100, 18% do not
  • 69% of the 74% support a reduction, even if it means House is no longer fully proportional

Research NZ polled 500 people from 10 to 13 November 2008 on MMP.

  • 53% support MMP (up 7% from Aug) and 35% FPP (down 6%) suggesting the election result has led to more people happier with MMP
  • 69% of under 30s support MMP but only 45% of over 60s, however MMP more popular than FPP in all age groups

Herald DigiPoll on MMP

The Herald DigiPoll asked 700 respondents about MMP:

  • 35% prefer MMP
  • 39% prefer FPP
  • 10% prefer another system
  • 16% do not know or won’t say

A Research NZ poll of 500 respondents on MMP was conducted between 7 and 14 August.

  • 46% support FPP
  • 41% support MMP
  • Amongst under 30s MMP has 53% to 23% for FPP
  • Amongst those aged over 50, FPP has 59% support
